[edit] What is OLED?

OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is a new kind of graphical display that is an advancement over the traditional LCD screens. It is a display composed of a film of organic components. The GP2X Wiz uses this new technology in its touch screen.

[edit] Why use OLED?

* OLED screens don't need a back/front light, and draw less power from the internal battery
* OLED has an increased viewing angle over LCD screens
* OLED has a greater black level
* OLED has a superior response time (0.01ms)
* OLED does not power pixels that are turned off. (Great for Black heavy Arcade/NES games)
* OLED displays are thinner than LCDs, letting devices be smaller and thinner.

[edit] OLED/LCD comparison

GP32X user DaveC has compiled this comparative image, of the Wiz's OLED display and the GP2X F200's LCD display.
