Installing the MAME emulator
[edit] Installing the MAME emulator
The GP2X Wiz supports a wide range of emulators. The process of setting up an emulator may be something of a challenge to a new Wiz owner; this section aims to clarify the process by describing how to set up the MAME emulator on an SD card.
First, create a directory for MAME on the SD card: while there is no set location for MAME, many users use a directory called "game" (an alternative would be to place MAME in a directory called "emulator"). If the destination directory doesn't exist on your SD card, create it.
Download MAME4All Wiz from http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi?0,0,0,0,73,22 . The current version of MAME4All Wiz is mame4all_2.4_wiz.7z
Unzip MAME4All and copy the contents to the destination directory on the SD card.
Note that when MAME4All is unzipped, a "roms" directory is part of the file structure (it contains a single text file, dir.txt, containing the line "Place ROM directories here").
Locate a ROM that you would like to use with MAME.
Copy the zipped ROM file to the "roms" directory on the SD card (eg SD/emulator/roms): don't unzip the ROM, simply copy the zip file to the "roms" directory.
The setup process is complete.
Start MAME via the Launcher by browsing to file mame.gpe. When MAME starts, a list of ROMs will be displayed.
Select the ROM and press [A]
If a text message is displayed (eg "Use of emulators in conjunction with ROMs you don't own is forbidden") clear it using the following key presses:
Left shoulder key, right shoulder key, left D-pad, right D-pad
The same sequence of key presses can be used to clear subsequent text messages.
