Installing the DrPocketSNES emulator

This section describes how install the DrPocketSNES emulator on an SD card.

First, create a directory for DrPocketSNES emulator on the SD card. There's no set location for the emulator: it could be placed directory called "game", or it could be placed in a directory called "emulator". Decide on the best location for you and, if the destination directory doesn't exist on your SD card, simply create it.

If you already have an emulator installed (for example, you may already have MAME4all in the "games" directory, or in the "emulator" directory) you may wish to create a subdirectory for each emulator, so as to prevent conflicts between any files with the same name (such as readme.txt); for example:

SDcard/emulator/MAME4all_/[place the MAME files here]

SDcard/emulator/DrPocketSNES/[place the DrPocketSNES files here]

Note, however, that some users keep their emulators in the same directory (eg two different NES emulators), in order to allow the emulators to share ROMs, thereby avoiding the need to have two sets of ROMs on the SD card.

Download DrPocketSNES from http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/wiz.cgi?0,0,0,0,71,37. The current version of DrPocketSNES is Pocketsnes_wiz_650.zip (27/10/2009).

Unzip Pocketsnes_wiz_650.zip and copy the contents to the destination directory on the SD card.

Note that when Pocketsnes_wiz_650.zip is unzipped, there is no "roms" directory: this will have to be created manually.

Locate a ROM that you would like to use with DrPocketSNES.

Copy the zipped ROM file to the "roms" directory on the SD card (eg SD/emulator/DrPocketSNES/roms): don't unzip the ROM, simply copy the zip file to the "roms" directory.

The setup process is complete.

Start DrPocketSNES via the Launcher by browsing to file pocketsnes.gpe. When DrPocketSNES starts, use the D-Pad to select the "Select ROM" option and confirm the selection with the [B> button. A list of ROMs in the "roms" directory will be displayed.

Select the ROM and press [B>

To return to the DrPocketSNES menu to select a different ROM, access the options menu, exit the emulator, etc., press both volume buttons ([volume -] and [volume +]) at the same time.
